“I’m all about being surrounded by things that mean a lot to me.” It is clear that Yolanda’s family and her heritage are important to her. She and her husband moved three years ago to North Liberty from Mason City, where she was born and raised. Photos of their 7 children and 2 grand children are prominently displayed throughout their house, as are meaningful objects that reflect her Spanish and American Indian heritage.

“I am a detail person.” Her job, a detailer of architectural plans for a hardware/door company, reflects this talent. As an active member of her quilt guild in Mason City, Yolanda enjoyed planning and carrying out a number of guild events and activities. “I am a worker bee. I love to keep busy.” Besides family and quilting, working in her lovely yard obviously keeps her busy.

Yolanda prefers to come up with her own designs, rather than follow a pattern. “Something will inspire me to create a design.”

Yolanda looks to the guild to provide opportunities for fellowship with persons of the same interests. She is eager to learn from and to share with other guild members. Being an active participant in a group is important to Yolanda, as evidenced by her volunteering to be on the guild’s historical committee soon after she joined the guild. She is currently looking for other guild members in the North Liberty area interested in starting a small group.

It is clear Yolanda is and will be an asset to the guild.
