Iowa City Area Face Mask Project

In mid-March 2020, members of the Old Capitol Quilters Guild (OCQG) teamed with two other organizations who do charitable sewing--Days for Girls and The Preemie Project-- to make fabric face masks for hospitals, care centers, public employees (including police, fire, and transit workers), and a host of nonprofit organizations in the Iowa City area. Six weeks later we stopped counting, but by then our 300+ volunteers had sewn more than 7,500 masks. It was a remarkable effort undertaken selflessly by so many in our community.

We are extremely grateful for the commitment and skills of the many volunteers who achieved so much in so little time, and the agencies and individuals who received these masks are too.

We still have elastic and nose wires available free of charge.  Contact info@ocqg.org to find out how to request either of them.
