The COVID-19 Virus and
Our Quilting Community
The Old Capitol Quilters Guild has cancelled in-person monthly meetings through the end of 2020, but are now meeting via Zoom.
Our Program Committee has developed a full schedule of presentations and speakers through July 2021. We will have details posted on the website shortly. These programs will proceed either virtually or in-person when it is safe to do so.
Iowa City Area Face Mask Project
This project began during the third week of March 2020. In just 4 weeks, volunteers from the Old Capitol Quilters Guild joined forces with volunteers from The Preemie Project, Days for Girls-Iowa City Chapter, and individuals from the community at large to sew more than 7,000 face masks for hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and a host of public service and social service agencies and organizations in the greater Iowa City area.
We are extremely grateful for the commitment and skills of the many volunteers who achieved so much in so little time, and the agencies and individuals who received these masks are too.
Shopping Locally for Quilting Supplies during the COVID-19 Restrictions
Many local shops and quilting service providers continue to make fabric, supplies, and services available in creative ways despite the issues surrounding the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Contact your favorite store or provider to find out their hours or the services they may be providing. Local stores need our support!
